Baking Powder Biscuits

This is a old family recipe my mom would make. One of the best biscuit recipes I have ever tried. They are great when you want to make Biscuits and gravy, or with a main dish at dinner time. I also love them with scrambled eggs. Top them with butter and jelly they are just delicious.

Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cups shortening
1 egg
2/3 cups milk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. Mix together the baking powder, flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Add the shortening mixing with either a pastry blender or a fork until the size of peas.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the milk and egg.
  5. Add the milk/egg mixture to the flour mixture and blend with a fork until soft dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough out on a floured counter top to about 2/3 inch thick.
  7. Cut with a biscuit cuter about 2 5/8 inch round and place them on a cookie sheet.
  8. Bake for 12 minutes, and serve. Makes about 12 biscuits.
