Snicker doodles

1 cup butter softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar or brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Cream the butter with 1 1/2 cups sugar. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until blended.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add to the butter mixture, mixing as you add the flour.
  • On a plate or shallow bowl, mix the cinnamon and remaining sugar. Shape a tablespoon of dough into a ball. Roll the ball in the cinnamon mixture. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until set but not hard. Immediately move the cookies to a cooling rack. Makes 4 dozen.
